2nd ANNUAL LITERARY FOOD FIGHT!: The Winners

I am a few days late, I know.  But judging this year was incredibly difficult.  And with all of that slop took a long time to clean up.

Thank you so much for the 5 final stories.  Such creativity!

We had a story that required gas masks to clean up; stories that trashed both a McDonalds and a grocery store, one that included a food slinging monkey; and even a Bacon Elementary.  Mmmm.

A few brave contestants set their stories in rhyme, and all of the Flingers quickly jumped on board.  And two stories even included illustration.

This was very tough. As I said, the creativity was overwhelming and definitely had me rolling on the very sticky floor.

All of the winners this year will receive a  hardcover copy of the delightfully rhyming FOOD FIGHT! by Carol Diggory Shields, whimsically illustrated in clay by Doreen GayKassel.

This book has been a favorite in my family for years and will hopefully inspire you all to participate again next year.

First we have the prize for the Most Food Flung.

In this case, it was a TIE!  With 9 fabulous tosses of glop each, these two commented multiple times on each story and definitely were community personified.

JACKIE WELLINGTON
and
SUE PODUSKA!!!!

Both of you need to be sure to email me your address at marciecolleen@gmail.com to claim your prize..

And now the winner of The Best Story.

The judging finally came down to the story which was not only creative in its setting, scenario and characters, but also kept me wondering what the sequel will hold.  Seriously, the characters were so fleshed out and the language was peppered with fun similes and metaphors that had me chuckling.  I hope we haven't seen the last of the firey red Priscilla Witherspoon.

The winner of the 2nd ANNUAL LITERARY FOOD FIGHT "Best Story" is

THE DREADED INTENT BY JULIE ROWAN-ZOCH!!!!!!!

Please reach out to me at marciecolleen@gmail.com so we arranged your prize.

Congrats to the winners. And once again, thank you to all of our participants. I hope it was truly a good time and we hope to play with you again next year!

I also want to thank Julie Rowan-Zoch for our fabulous badge.

Last Day to Fling Your Food! Literary FOOD FIGHT closes at Midnight EST

Sad, but true.  Our FOOD FIGHT comes to an end at midnight tonight (EST).  So, grab that last spoonful of chocolate pudding or that last bowl of creamed corn and make it count!

It's not too late to win the coveted "Most Food Flung" award.

Remember:
Your comment needs to grow the story.

Read the posted story and all of the comments that precede you. Then, post your comment. Be sure to build on and further the existing story. Your comment should flow. The story should read as if it was written by one person when read from beginning to end.

ALSO, your comment needs to include at least one word of onomatopoeia and one thrown item of food. Your onomatopoeia must be a word that has not been used already in that story, as well. That's right. Be creative.

You can comment more than once on a story, however, you cannot fight with yourself...meaning, you cannot follow one of your own comments...someone else needs to comment before you can comment again. Have fun.

To my Participating Bloggers:

Over the weekend (March 8th and 9th) blog owners need to wrap up their story.

Clean up any comments that do not contribute to the story (you know, those "I heart this post" comments).

I am going to ask you to repost the story in its entirity in a brand new post.

Create a satisfying ending.  Tie up any loose ends.  Flex those creative writing chops.

Judging starts on Monday and the prizes for "Best Story" and "Most Food Flung" will be awarded March 14th.

You MUST be a Follower of this Blog to be eligible for prizes.

Join the 2ND ANNUAL FOOD FIGHT in honor of World Read Aloud Day '14

Wednesday, March 5th is "World Read Aloud" Day.  On LitWorld's website (wwwlitworld.org) they state that, "World Read Aloud Day is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every child’s right to a safe education and access to books and technology."

I am excited to say that here at the Write Routine we are going to mark "World Read Aloud" Day through a week-long celebration of community and language.  That's right.

It's time for the 2nd ANNUAL FOOD FIGHT!!!!!!

What says "read aloud" more than onomatopoeia?  Maybe its because I grew up with Adam West's Batman on tv and would live for the fight scenes when onomatopoeia would cover the screen.  POW! ZING!  WHAP!  But I do have an absolute love for onomatopoeia. What a tool in children's books.  So much fun to read aloud and play with.

I therefore declare the week of March 3rd, 2014, Onomatopoeia Appreciation Week.  Which brings me to our contest.  The 2nd ANNUAL FOOD FIGHT.

Last year we had 12 amazing entries.  This year, why not try your own hand at a fling or two?

Here's how it is going to work:
