Wednesday Writers Weigh In: NaPiBoWriWee!

Its National Picture Book Writing Week (or NaPiBoWriWee)!  This amazing challenge, hosted every May 1-7th by author Paula Yoo is a fun event created to encourage people to stop procrastinating and actually write and FINISH a rough draft of a picture book.

But to challenge everyone, Paula made it an entire week. So from May 1st to May 7th every year, you must write 7 picture books in 7 days!

I, myself, have been in a creative funk lately.  Nothing seems to inspire me.  Everything bores me.  Therefore, I am taking part in NaPiBoWriWee to break though this slump!  And so far, its worked!  I wrote Draft #1 and am working on Draft #2 today.

Sound like fun?  Well its not too late to join!  Head over to Paula's blog at http://paulayoo.com/napi/ and get writing!

This all brings me to this week's Weigh In...

what is the craziest thing you have ever done to break out of a slump?  Writers Weigh In!

  2. Good luck with the challenge! I'm heading to local SCBWI conference tomorrow so I don't have time for this challenge. I can't think of anything crazy that I have done to break out of a creative slump. I have so many projects on the go (poems, novel, picture book), that it seems my mind never shuts down. I hop from project to project. With that being said awhile back I couldn't "see" a couple of chapters in the novel I was writing. In these chapters the hero was travelling around a castle so I looked at pictures of castle for inspiration but I still couldn't see this castle. So I asked my husband to draw the castle. I gave him a few details and he added in a couple of details of his own. Those two chapters came flowing out. All I had to do is look up at the drawing and instantly I knew where the hero was and what she was doing.

  3. I've never done anything crazy I can think of to break out of a slump... I just keep slogging forward! Maybe I should try something :) I'm doing NaPiBoWriWee too - Day 1 did not go well, but Day 2 was much better. We'll see what Day 3 holds!

    1. Good luck, Susanna! Last night I just didn't have it in me to complete draft #2. So today I hope to do both drafts #2 and #3. We shall see. It is getting me out of my slump. I am feeling more creative.
