Wednesday Writers Weigh In: Celebrity Read Aloud Game

In honor of World Read Aloud Day, let's play a little game!

If you could have ANY celebrity read one of your manuscripts aloud, who would you choose?

Would you need a calm, steady, peaceful voice like Morgan Freeman?  Or spooky and mysterious like Vincent Price?  Or quirky with great comic timing like Ellen DeGeneres?

For my manuscript "Martin and Cyril in the Crevice of No Return" I would pick Will Farrell.  His playful, child like character would lend itself nicely to the madcap adventure of the story.

Now its your turn!  Pick one of your manuscripts and play along!

Clifford outside Books of Wonder in NYC today.  He was greeting kids for World Read Aloud Day!

  1. I would love it if Alan Rickman would read my retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Pen and The Inkstand in Haiku .... and I want to be right there with him... ;-)

  2. I would choose James Earl Jones for I Am Arthur. His voice is so rich, it would give a lovely weight to the story.

  3. For THE MONSTORE I would pick Joseph Gordon Levitt. Or Neil Patrick Harris. You know, some cute former child star with three names.

  4. Matthew McFadyen for my fish-out-of-water tale - hint: it's a period piece!

  5. Julie Andrews for my arts-themed picture book series. She has such a wonderful sense of fun, as well as loving to give characters their own voices when she reads aloud.

    1. Nothing like the loving fun of Mary Poppins reading a story. :)

    2. If you ever have the chance to hear her read her own books, such as Little Bo (there's a gift set with CD, now out of print, but I found one!) or Simeon's Gift, you'll see what I mean about her wonderful gift for reading aloud. There's so much more to Julie than Mary Poppins! (Although Poppins is a good start...)

And now, I think I'll put one of those CDs on, and be read aloud to!

  6. I would have David Suchet (Of Poirot fame) narrate my story, "A Pouch Full of Miracles", which is a fresh retelling of the 'Feeding of the 5,000' from the little boy's point of view. David has such a soothing voice, and has read a number of classics and Biblically based books.

  7. Gary Sinise read my "If I Only Knew" or "Wired" book. Most likely the "Wired" book. Mystery/suspense/action.
