Hello writers! If I seem more mature, its because my birthday was yesterday. So yes, I am older and wiser...kind of. :)
Today I would like to pose a question to you all to help me complete one of my annual traditions...The List!
Last year I drafted up a list of "37 Things to do when I am 37". The only rule was it had to be achievable goals that I could do myself...no goals of "Get an Agent". That is out of my control. So I listed things such as "Start a Blog". Which I did! And fun things like "Ride the Cyclone at Coney Island". Which was a blast, by the way!
So, today I am starting to draft up my "38 Things to do when I am 38" List and I am wondering...when it comes to writing, what are some truly achievable goals I can set for myself? A goal such as "write daily" is hard and kinda sets one up for failure. So, aside from completing the 12x12in12 Challenge and NaPiBoWriWee, what are some goals I can include on this list?
I look forward to hearing what you writers have to say. :) So....Weigh In!
Happy Birthday! Can't wait to see the list. What about, pull out and revise one very old manuscript that's been collecting dust? Or create an "idea notebook?" Hope your day and the rest of the year is great!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Miranda! Great ideas! I do have a few manuscripts that could use some dusting. Thinking about sending those on to Rate Your Story. :)
DeleteHappy Birthday! How about write an ms in a genre you would not normally use? It might be a good way to stretch your writing skills in a new direction. Good luck with the list, I hope you'll share the finished list!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. I am all for stretching my skills. :)

ReplyDeleteHow about committing to getting one of your PB drafts from the 12 x 12 revised to submission-ready - and then actually submit it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Marcie!
ReplyDeleteList idea:
Always jot down an idea gifted you by your muse
[via paper and pen, an e-file, notepad option on your phone, a napkin, etc.] An idea can be so fleeting!
Happy Birthday, you youngster!
ReplyDeleteHow about doing Susanna Hill's 100 Book Challenge? We are supposed to read, read, read.
Happy Birthday :) What about writing a blog post a day on weekdays? Read x number of books?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Marcie! Hope it was great and you accomplish your 38!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Marcie! How about writing down a new descriptive word each day, maybe with a definition? Or, a new verb when it catches your eye?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday/Joyeux anniversaire! Write a poem!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, indeed! Maybe you could write a poem with 38 lines or put together a list of 38 agents who represent your genre. But maybe that's carrying 38 too far. In any case, I hope you have a wonderful year!
ReplyDeleteHappy b-day. Hmm perhaps commit to researching at least one publisher every month. Try writing a story from a different point of view (write a story in first person or second person). Introduce yourself as writer at least once a month.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteFunny...I am doing something similar in anticipation of turning 30 next year...my goal is 30 pb manuscripts written up! I'm about half way there already, so it is pretty do-able.
I just added doing 30 pushups in a row.
And I'm sending out 30 postcards to a friend as a present.
But I digress.
These are supposed to be writing related.
how about collecting 38 quotes that inspire you to write? Or encourage you? Or that you just plain love?
If you need any help in that department, I've got a bunch!
What about writing a recap of every day in 38 words or less?
Ok that's all I have, maybe more soon!
